OSCC
Scholarships Due on May 30
Each
year, OSCC makes a commitment to the
professional development by providing scholarships
to its members. Focused on professional
development opportunities customized for the
Chamber profession, guidelines for the OSCC
scholarship programs include:
-
Every
scholarship applicant must submit a
written
application
stating how he/she will benefit from the
training and why financial assistance is
necessary. The application must be accompanied
by a
recommendation
from the Chamber chair or, in the case of a
staff person, the chamber’s chief executive,
showing support for training and
development.
-
To
broaden potential experience, scholarships will
be given for training opportunities and
national, regional and state chamber
gatherings.
-
The
applicant’s Chamber must agree to make some
level of financial contribution toward the
applicant’s training at the event for which a
scholarship is sought.
-
At
least one scholarship for the WACE annual
conference and one scholarship for the OSCC
annual conference will be given to an
“emerging chamber leader,” defined as a
staff person who is considered a potential
chamber executive.
-
An
OSCC board-level committee will review
applications and select scholarship recipients.
Members of the scholarship review committee will
be ineligible for a scholarship that year.
-
A
waiting list for specific training opportunities
will be kept. If a scholarship recipient becomes
unable to attend a training.

Your Input
Requested on International Trade
The Oregon Economic
and Community Development Department (OECDD) and
Portland State University requests your
participation in an online survey to better
determine the impact of International Trade on
Oregon's Economy.
This International Trade Survey online survey is
part of a joint study by OECDD and Portland
State University. The study, which also includes
research and analysis of trade statistics, aims
to provide an in-depth analysis of international
trade flows and their linkages to economic
indicators in Oregon. This survey will provide
data regarding international business activity
that will be used to help determine the impact
of international trade on Oregon's economy. All
individual responses will be kept in strict
confidence.
The survey is brief with an optional second tier
of questions. The first tier asks general
questions regarding traded goods and services.
The survey requests your E.I.N. This information
will be used only to prevent survey
duplications.

Congestion
Shackles Oregon’s Economy
By 2025,
Oregon's economy stands to lose $1.7 billion
annually and 16,000 jobs due to traffic delay and
highway limitations. Over that same period,
households will waste $813 million annually in lost
time and businesses $784 million annually through
increased travel mileage and time. Oregonians will
spend 157,000 additional hours on the road each
year, limiting the time they will have available to
spend with their families and increasing emissions
that reduce air quality and contribute to global
warming.
That information and much more are part of the The
Cost of Highway Limitations and Traffic Delay to
Oregon’s Economy, a report prepared for the Oregon
Business Council and the Portland Business Alliance
by the Economic Research Group, Inc. Link to the
Executive Summary and full report.

Moore Poll Shows
Economic Anxiety
With the economy emerging as a leading concern among
Oregonians in 2008, it isn’t surprising to learn
that voter mood in the state is also more
pessimistic in today’s climate according to a poll
conducted by Moore Information.
