work of local chambers of commerce in their
communities.

OSCC
Tackles Measures 66 and 67
The
Oregon State Chamber of Commerce is opposed
to Ballot Measures 66 and 67. The OSCC’s
Board of Director’s position of opposition is
based on the impact to business and the economy.
Among their concerns:
-
Legislative Revenue Office estimates indicate
that roughly 65% of those affected by the
personal income tax increases in Ballot
Measure 66 will actually be small
businesses, hitting the backbone of the
Oregon economy when they can least afford
it.
-
State
economists have estimated that the taxes
could result in a loss of thousands of
private sector jobs.
-
Measure
67 would establish a tiered Corporate
Minimum Tax, depending on in-state sales.
Since the proposed minimum tax is based on
gross revenue, not income, a company that
has large business volume, yet makes no
profit, could be subject to new taxes of up
to $100,000. There are better ways to adjust
Oregon’s Corporate Minimum Tax.
As part of the
effort to defeat the Measures, many OSCC members
are actively involved in efforts to defeat these
job killing measures. In addition, OSCC placed
statements in the voters' pamphlet in opposition
to each measure. The following Chambers signed onto voters’ pamphlet statements in
opposition to the Measures:

Clarno
Named Executive of the Year
The
Oregon State Chamber of Commerce has named Lorraine
Clarno, President, Beaverton Area Chamber of
Commerce, recipient of the 2009 William R.
Haas Chamber Executive of the Year award.
Nominated
by her Board of Directors and chosen by her
peers, Clarno was selected for the award because
of her strong leadership, ability to collaborate
with various groups to accomplish their
collective goals, and her dedicated service to
Beaverton and the Portland region. Recognized
in her community for consistently demonstrating
professionalism, initiative and fairness, a
colleague captured it best in the nomination by
stating “Lorraine is an excellent leader and
leads by example. She is willing to tackle any
problem with vigor and resourcefulness. During
her tenure at the Beaverton Chamber, the Chamber
has successfully forwarded a host of new
initiatives related to economic development,
membership services, branding and more.
Instituted
in 1985, the Chamber Executive of the Year award
is presented each year by the Oregon State
Chamber of Commerce. The award recognizes
chamber directors or CEOs for their professional
excellence in their chamber and community. In
2004, the OSCC Board of Directors named the
award in honor of the late William R. (Bill)
Haas in order to memorialize his contributions
to the chamber profession and the association.
Corvallis-
Benton Chamber Coalition 2009 Chamber
Achievement Award Winner
Every
day chambers of commerce make a significance
difference in their community. In an effort to
recognize the outstanding work of local chambers
across our state, the Oregon State Chamber of
Commerce each year recognizes one of its peers
for a program or initiative that elevates the
role of their chamber in their community. The
OSCC Chamber Achievement Award highlights
exceptional innovation, impact and leadership
demonstrated by a local chamber.
The
Corvallis-Benton Chamber Coalition was recently
named the winner of the 2009 OSCC Chamber
Achievement Award. It
was recognized for its Willamette Angel
Conference, an ambitious undertaking that
produced meaningful results in support of
entrepreneurial development in the Willamette
Valley while helping to position the region as a
place where new ventures and new ideas are
supported.
